Field Trips

Liability Waiver

AltaCal Bird Alliance requires that the Liability Waiver be completed and signed before participating in any field trip. Each participant only needs to complete one per year for AltaCal (although this does NOT cover the liability waiver for the Snow Goose Festival). The Field Trip Coordinator will keep the Master File of all completed forms and send the information to the Field Trip Leaders before their trips.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY

Pre-registration required

  • Signing an AltaCal Bird Alliance Liability Waiver is a requirement to attend all field trips. AltaCal's scheduled field trips are a great way to experience a variety of birding areas, with an experienced trip leader. Occasionally “Pop-up” Birding Field Trips, that aren’t listed here, will be posted on the AltaCal Facebook Page.

Celebrating and Conserving Ecosystems of our Region

    Monday, November 17, 2025 at 6:30 p.m.
Presented by Hannah Espinosa, Kim Armstrong, & Cynthia Perrine (Northern California Regional Land Trust)

Join the Northern California Regional Land Trust for an inspiring presentation on birding across both public and private lands, and discover how they’re working to expand their bird monitoring and research programs. Whether you’re a seasoned birder, or just curious about local wildlife, this is a great opportunity to connect with your land trust and explore ways to support conservation in your community. Let’s celebrate the beauty of our region’s ecosystems—together!

Hannah Espinosa is the Stewardship & Conservation Director at NCRLT, where she oversees stewardship land management, conservation planning, and easement transactions. She holds degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Kentucky and an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation from Middlesex University, London. With global field experience and a passion for habitat restoration and equitable access to nature, Hannah is dedicated to protecting Northern California’s landscapes.

Kim Armstrong, Stewardship Manager at NCRLT, earned her Ecology degree with a Biology minor from CSU, Chico. Her career began with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife at the Oroville Wildlife Area, where she developed a passion for birds through managing wood duck boxes and banding waterfowl. She expanded her impact through restoration efforts with River Partners across multiple watersheds. As a Chico native, Kim is deeply committed to protecting local ecosystems and stays active outdoors through backpacking, hiking, birding, and flyfishing. Kim has been involved in the Northern Saw-whet Owl Research and Education Program through Altacal Bird Alliance for roughly a decade.

Cynthia Perrine is a Certified Nonprofit Professional and Certified Wildlife Biologist, with prior projects including youth and collegiate conservation education programs, coordinating expert-led learning experiences and scientific collecting forays across California, Nevada, and New Zealand, and coordinating CDFW’s education program for newly-hired scientists statewide. Born and raised in Chico, she holds a B.S. in Environmental Biology Management from U.C. Davis, and completed graduate studies at CSU Chico studying wild turkey food habits and fire ecology in Lassen Park. Species she’s inclined to work with include bats and birds, and her favorite habitat is blue oak woodland.
